New aviation STEM curriculum coming to Riverside charter school

New Delhi, June 14, 2018:  Springs Charter Schools’ Flabob Airport Preparatory Academy in Riverside for grades seven through 12 will offer the new Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association’s high school aviation science, technology, engineering and math curriculum beginning in the 2018-19 school year.

The curriculum will offer students aviation study options aligned with math and science standards used in many states, helping students learn about aviation-related career and educational opportunities according to pe.com.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) is developing the curriculum as part of three career and technical education pathways: pilot, unmanned aircraft systems (drones) and aerospace engineering. Each year, AOPA will release subsequent courses until all four high school grade levels of the curriculum are complete. In addition to implementing the ninth-grade curriculum in the 2018-19 school year, 25 schools will also test the 10th-grade curriculum.

The Flabob Airport Preparatory Academy was one of five California schools approved to use the curriculum.
