As per protocol, the Air India aircraft was taken to a isolated bay, and following the standard operating procedure, mandatory security checks were promptly initiated, a spokesperson from the airline said.

The aircraft, which had been en route to John F. Kennedy International Airport, was rerouted to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi after a security concern was raised.

The plane is stationed in Delhi, where all necessary security measures are currently in place, the Delhi police confirmed.

The flight AI119, operating on October 14, was diverted as a precautionary measure based on instructions from the government’s security regulatory committee. Upon landing in Delhi, all passengers were safely disembarked and moved to the airport terminal, said an airline spokesperson.

“We confirm that all 239 passengers and 19 crew have disembarked and are currently undergoing security procedures. Refreshments have been provided to the passengers. Our staff on ground are making sure to minimise the inconvenience caused to our guests by this unexpected disruption. Guests will be moved to hotels once security protocols are completed,” the airline said.

Additionally, the guests will be moved to hotels post completion of security checks and the flight to New York has been rescheduled to October 15.

Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew, the statement said.
