Yangon, May 10, 2020: Since 24 April, in line with Myanmar Government orientations, Yangon International Airport (“YIA”) extended the suspension of international passenger flights to 15 May, although continuing the operation of repatriation flights, cargo, and relief, said today YIA’s operator Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited (“YACL”).

The  extension  of  the  suspension  on  international  commercial  passenger  flights  arises  from the

decision of Myanmar’s National Central Committee for Prevention, Control, and Treatment of COVID-

  1. Some domestic air travel has continued without interruption with very reduced frequencies.

Since the suspension of international passenger flights up to date, YIA – the main aviation gateway to Myanmar –has handled a total number of 81 flights supported by various airlines, including local carriers such as MNA and MAI, for relief operations at the end of April.

The purpose of these flights is to facilitate air relief operations for various parts of Myanmar, providing essential and medical goods nationwide, necessary for critical services and the population, as well as to limiting the spread of the virus.

Regarding the international relief flights, processes initiated by the relevant authority from the destination countries in coordination with the Myanmar Government due to entry restrictions were addressed and implemented at all times.

YIA remains on a high level of operational alertness and strictly adhering to the Public Health Contingency Plan, maintaining all mandatory cleaning and screening processes throughout its continued operations to facilitate vital public services.
