Mumbai, September 13, 2023: Vietjet, Vietnam’s leading new-age carrier, and Carlyle Aviation Partners, a prominent U.S.-based aviation finance and asset management company, solidified their partnership yesterday by signing a landmark aircraft finance agreement valued at $550 million. This occurred during the official visit of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to Vietnam.
Carlyle Aviation Partners, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Carlyle Group, will provide financing for Vietjet’s order of 200 Boeing 737 Max aircraft. This substantial aircraft order represents one of the largest commercial contracts to date and greatly contributes to the trade balance between Vietnam and the United States.

During President Joe Biden’s official visit to Vietnam, Vietjet and Boeing also reached an agreement regarding the delivery schedule for the initial batch of 12 aircraft out of Vietjet’s total order of 200 Boeing 737 Max planes in 2024. This order, exceeding $25 billion in value, will be executed over a five-year period.
The first batch of 737 Max aircraft will be delivered to Thai Vietjet, a subsidiary of Vietjet and a prominent player in Thailand’s aviation industry. Thai Vietjet proudly represents Vietjet’s brand and imagery and has gained popularity among travelers in the region.
Carlyle Aviation Partners, headquartered in Miami, Florida, since its establishment in 2002, specializes in global aircraft finance and leasing, currently managing a fleet of 396 aircraft spanning 59 countries.
Vietjet aims to bridge the gap by opening further opportunities to travel easily between India and Vietnam’s leading economic and cultural central; additionally promoting the development of economic relations and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Vietjet currently have 32 return flights servicing India each week from Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. From November, Vietjet is expected to launch a new route to Tiruchirappalli and plans to have an initial frequency of three return flights per week, in order to meet rising demand from travellers in both countries.
